We just got back from Turkey which we enjoyed immensely. I have a new respect for this country which emerged as a Democracy in 1923 under President Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, completely free from religious zeal and where women have the same rights as men. It is 95% Islamic but only 20-30% go to Mosques to pray. Secularism works as it does in Israel and preserves the separation of church and state. The present President seems to be calling for a theocracy which would certainly wreck what has so-far been a beautiful Republic growing at 8% per year. It would be a shame to throw away all the reforms and liberty that makes Turkey work.
